ARM LIFT IN ANTALYA
An arm lift, medically known as brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure used to address excess skin and selected fatty tissue in the upper arms. Changes in this area can develop after significant weight loss, changes in skin elasticity, ageing or individual tissue characteristics.
The procedure focuses mainly on the area between the underarm and elbow. Depending on the anatomy, surgery may involve removal of excess skin, adjustment of underlying tissues and, when appropriate, removal of selected fat deposits.

WHAT IS AN ARM LIFT?
An arm lift reshapes the upper arm by removing selected excess skin and adjusting the underlying tissues.
The operation is commonly considered when loose skin remains along the inner or lower part of the upper arm.
Exercise can strengthen the muscles of the arm but does not remove excess skin. When the main concern is skin laxity rather than muscle tone, a surgical assessment may therefore be required to determine which tissues contribute to the appearance of the arm.
The extent of surgery varies considerably. Some individuals have a limited amount of excess skin near the underarm, while others have skin laxity extending toward the elbow.
WHO MAY BE EVALUATED FOR ARM LIFT SURGERY?
Arm lift surgery may be considered in adults who have excess upper arm skin and are medically suitable for elective surgery.
Assessment may be appropriate when there is:
- Loose skin following significant weight loss.
- Skin laxity associated with changes in elasticity.
- Excess skin extending along the inner upper arm.
- A combination of excess skin and localised subcutaneous fat.
- Differences between the right and left upper arms.
Body weight and recent weight changes are also considered.
A relatively stable body weight provides a more consistent basis for surgical planning because further substantial weight changes can affect the remaining skin and tissues.
HOW IS THE UPPER ARM ASSESSED?
The arms are examined with the individual standing and in different arm positions.
The assessment includes:
- Amount of excess skin.
- Location of skin laxity.
- Skin elasticity.
- Fat distribution.
- Arm circumference.
- Relationship between the upper arm and underarm.
- Existing scars.
- Natural asymmetry.
The amount of loose skin determines both the extent of tissue removal and the possible length of the incision.
The surgeon also evaluates whether excess fullness is primarily caused by fat, skin or a combination of both.
WHERE IS THE ARM LIFT INCISION LOCATED?
Incision placement depends on the amount and location of excess skin.
In more extensive brachioplasty procedures, the incision may extend from the underarm toward the elbow along the inner or posterior part of the upper arm.
When excess skin is more limited and concentrated close to the underarm, a shorter incision may sometimes be considered.
There is no single incision pattern that applies to every upper arm.
A longer area of loose skin generally requires a longer surgical incision to remove the necessary tissue.
All arm lift incisions create permanent scars. During early healing, scars may appear red, pink, firm or more noticeable before gradually changing as scar tissue matures.
CAN LIPOSUCTION BE USED DURING AN ARM LIFT?
Liposuction may sometimes form part of an arm lift when localised subcutaneous fat is also present.
However, liposuction and arm lift surgery address different anatomical concerns.
Liposuction primarily removes selected fat deposits, while brachioplasty removes excess skin.
When skin has limited elasticity, removing fat alone may not address loose skin and can sometimes make existing skin laxity more visible.
The need for either procedure, or a combination of both, is determined according to the tissue characteristics found during examination.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING ARM LIFT SURGERY?
Dressings are applied after surgery, and a compression garment or elastic support may be recommended. Temporary drains may also be used in some cases to reduce the accumulation of blood or fluid beneath the tissues.

Before the operation, the areas of excess skin are marked according to the surgical plan.

The planned incision is then made and selected excess skin and tissue are removed. When localised fat is also included in the plan, it may be addressed using direct removal or liposuction techniques.

I went to Antalya to originally get a scar revision and abdominal etching as due to a previous botched surgery, I was left with a horrible keloid scar and uneven abdominal. I was very hesitant at first due to my previous experience. But Dr.Seckin is well recommended by a close friend. He made me feel at ease with the operation. He corrected my scar and did a correction mini tummy tuck plus abdominal etching. I cannot recommend him enough. He is an amazing professional Doctor.

WHEN CAN EXERCISE RESUME?
Return to exercise depends on the extent of surgery and individual healing.
Walking and light routine activity are generally different from upper-body resistance training or activities requiring repetitive arm movements.
Heavy lifting and strenuous upper-body exercise may need to remain restricted until the incisions and deeper tissues have healed sufficiently.
Postoperative examinations are used to determine when physical activity can safely be increased.
HOW LONG DOES SWELLING LAST?
Swelling decreases progressively after surgery.
It is usually more noticeable during the early postoperative period, although residual swelling and tissue firmness may remain for several weeks or longer.
The two arms may not resolve swelling at exactly the same rate.
For this reason, the final arm contour should not be evaluated immediately after surgery.
WHAT HAPPENS TO THE ARM LIFT SCAR?
Scarring is an unavoidable part of brachioplasty.
The scar length depends primarily on how much skin needs to be removed.
During healing, the scar may change in colour, thickness and texture. Scar maturation generally continues over several months.
Factors that can influence scar appearance include:
- Skin type.
- Genetics.
- Wound tension.
- Individual healing characteristics.
- Previous scar behaviour.
- Smoking or nicotine exposure.
People with a history of raised or thick scars should discuss this before surgery.
CAN WEIGHT CHANGES AFFECT THE RESULT?
Yes.
Significant weight gain may increase the amount of tissue in the upper arms, while substantial weight loss can create further skin laxity.
For this reason, relatively stable body weight is relevant when planning body-contouring surgery.
Ageing and changes in skin elasticity can also continue to affect the arms after surgery.
WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE RISKS?
Arm lift surgery carries potential complications like any surgical procedure.
Possible risks include:
- Bleeding.
- Haematoma.
- Infection.
- Fluid accumulation.
- Delayed wound healing.
- Wound separation.
- Changes in skin sensation.
- Persistent numbness.
- Visible or raised scars.
- Asymmetry.
- Fat necrosis.
- Damage to deeper structures such as nerves or blood vessels.
- Persistent discomfort.
- Need for additional surgery.
The individual risk profile depends on general health, previous procedures, smoking status, medication use and the extent of surgery.
SMOKING AND ARM LIFT SURGERY
Nicotine can reduce blood flow to healing tissues and may increase the risk of wound-healing problems.
Cigarettes, vaping and other nicotine-containing products should therefore be discussed during the preoperative assessment.
Instructions regarding stopping nicotine before and after surgery should be followed according to the individual medical plan.
