FACE AND NECK LIFT IN ANTALYA
A face and neck lift is a surgical procedure used to address structural changes affecting the lower face, jawline and neck. Over time, skin elasticity, facial soft tissues, fat distribution and supporting structures can change, altering the contours of these areas.
At Dr. Seckin Oksar’s practice in Antalya, face and neck lift surgery is planned according to individual facial anatomy. The cheeks, jawline, neck tissues, skin quality and deeper supporting structures are evaluated together before the surgical approach is determined.
WHAT IS A FACE AND NECK LIFT?
A facelift, medically known as rhytidectomy, repositions selected facial tissues and adjusts excess skin where required.
A neck lift focuses on changes below the jawline, including loose skin, changes in the platysma muscles and reduced definition between the lower face and neck.
Because the face and neck form a continuous anatomical region, both areas may be addressed within the same surgical plan when appropriate.
The operation is not based only on tightening the skin. Deeper tissues are also considered because they contribute to facial shape and support.
WHAT CAN A FACE AND NECK LIFT ADDRESS?
Depending on the anatomy, surgery may address:
- Reduced jawline definition.
- Tissue descent in the lower cheeks.
- Jowls.
- Loose skin of the lower face.
- Skin laxity in the neck.
- Visible vertical neck bands.
- Changes beneath the chin.
- Reduced definition between the jaw and neck.
Not every visible change is caused by excess skin. Muscles, fat distribution and deeper soft tissues can also influence facial contour.
Identifying which structures are responsible is therefore an important part of surgical planning.
HOW IS SURGERY PLANNED?
The face is examined from several angles so that the relationship between the cheeks, jawline, chin and neck can be assessed.
The surgeon evaluates skin quality, soft tissue position, facial fat and natural asymmetry.
The neck is also examined for skin laxity, platysma muscle position, tissue beneath the chin and the overall relationship between the jaw and neck.
Beneath the facial skin is a layer commonly referred to as the superficial musculoaponeurotic system, or SMAS. Depending on the surgical technique and anatomy, deeper tissues such as the SMAS may be repositioned or supported during facelift surgery.
The exact surgical method is selected according to the individual findings rather than using one technique for every patient.
THE TECHNIQUES
There is no single facelift. Which technique is right for you depends on how far the tissues have descended, the quality of your skin, the state of your neck, and what you actually want changed. That decision is made at the examination, not from a menu — and the operation is often a combination of the approaches below.
Deep-plane facelift
The lift is carried out beneath the deep layer of the face, releasing and repositioning the cheek tissue, the jowl and the neck as one unit. It gives the most complete correction of a descended mid-face and the most natural movement afterwards, because the skin is laid back over repositioned tissue rather than stretched over it. This is Dr. Oksar’s standard approach to the face and neck.
SMAS facelift
The SMAS — the sheet of muscle and fibrous tissue beneath the skin — is tightened and lifted, and the skin redraped over it. It addresses the jowls and the jawline well and is the classical technique from which the deep-plane approach developed. Where the mid-face has not descended far, it may be all that is required.
Neck lift and platysmaplasty
Through the small incision under the chin, the two vertical bands of the neck muscle (the platysma) are brought together and tightened, loose skin is redraped and excess fat removed. It restores the angle between chin and neck. It is part of every face and neck lift here, and can be performed on its own where the face itself does not need lifting.
Submental liposuction
Where the problem under the chin is fat rather than loose skin or muscle, the fat is suctioned through a tiny incision. On its own it suits younger patients with good skin elasticity; in a full face and neck lift it is one step among several.
Short-scar (mini) facelift
A shorter incision in front of the ear, without the extension behind it, lifting the lower face only. It suits early jowling in a patient with a good neck, and gives a shorter recovery. It does not treat the neck, which is why it is offered only when the neck genuinely does not need treatment.
Fat grafting
Ageing is loss of volume as well as descent. Where the temples, cheeks or the area beneath the eyes have hollowed, the patient’s own fat can be transferred to restore it in the same operation, so that the lifted face is also a full one.
These are the techniques used in modern facial surgery. Which of them are used in your operation, and in what combination, is decided by Dr. Oksar at the examination and explained to you before you decide.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING FACE AND NECK LIFT SURGERY?
The extent and duration of surgery vary according to the anatomical areas being treated.

The operation is performed under anaesthesia.

After the planned incisions are made, the facial and neck tissues included in the surgical plan are accessed.

Deeper tissues
Deeper facial tissues may be repositioned or supported. When necessary, the platysma muscles or other neck structures can also be adjusted.

Skin and closure
The skin is then redraped over the repositioned tissues, selected excess skin is removed and the incisions are closed.

Drainage
Temporary drainage tubes may be used in some cases to reduce fluid accumulation during early recovery.
WHO MAY BE EVALUATED FOR FACE AND NECK LIFT SURGERY?
There is no specific age at which face or neck lift surgery becomes appropriate.
Suitability depends more on facial anatomy, tissue changes and general health than chronological age.
Factors considered during assessment include:
- Skin quality and elasticity.
- Degree of facial tissue descent.
- Jawline and neck anatomy.
- Previous facial procedures.
- Medical history.
- Medication use.
- Smoking or nicotine exposure.
- Individual wound-healing characteristics.

WHERE ARE FACE AND NECK LIFT INCISIONS LOCATED?
Incisions are generally planned around natural anatomical boundaries near the hairline and ears.
An incision may begin near the temporal hairline, continue around the contours of the ear and extend behind the ear into the hair-bearing area.
When additional access to the central neck is required, a small incision beneath the chin may also be considered.
The exact incision pattern depends on the surgical plan.
Every surgical incision produces a permanent scar. Scar colour and texture generally change over time, and final appearance is influenced by skin characteristics, wound tension and individual healing.
RECOVERY AFTER FACE AND NECK LIFT SURGERY
Swelling and bruising are expected during early recovery.
Temporary sensations can include:
- Tightness.
- Numbness.
- Altered skin sensitivity.

The head may be kept elevated during the first stage of recovery.

I went to Antalya to originally get a scar revision and abdominal etching as due to a previous botched surgery, I was left with a horrible keloid scar and uneven abdominal. I was very hesitant at first due to my previous experience. But Dr.Seckin is well recommended by a close friend. He made me feel at ease with the operation. WHEN CAN THE RESULT BE EVALUATED?
The result of a face and neck lift cannot be accurately assessed immediately after surgery.
Swelling, bruising and tissue tension temporarily affect the contours of the face and neck.
A significant amount of swelling generally decreases during the first weeks, while residual swelling and tissue firmness may continue for longer.
The two sides of the face may also heal at slightly different rates.
Scars mature over several months and may initially appear redder or firmer before changing in colour and texture.
The final facial contour therefore becomes easier to evaluate as healing progresses.
DOES A FACE AND NECK LIFT TREAT EVERY SIGN OF FACIAL AGEING?
No.
A face and neck lift primarily addresses the lower face, jawline and neck structures included in the surgical plan.
It does not automatically change:
- Forehead position.
- Eyelid anatomy.
- Nose shape.
- Skin pigmentation.
- Fine surface lines.
- Facial bone structure.
Different facial changes have different anatomical causes and should therefore be evaluated separately.
WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE RISKS?
Face and neck lift surgery carries potential complications like any surgical procedure.
Possible risks include:
- Bleeding or haematoma.
- Infection.
- Fluid accumulation.
- Delayed wound healing.
- Visible or raised scars.
- Changes in skin sensation.
- Prolonged swelling.
- Facial asymmetry.
- Changes in hair growth near incisions.
- Skin circulation problems.
- Temporary or persistent facial nerve weakness.
- Need for additional surgery.
The individual risk profile depends on general health, anatomy and the extent of the operation.
SMOKING AND FACE AND NECK LIFT SURGERY
Nicotine can affect blood circulation in healing tissues.
This is particularly relevant in facial surgery because the skin and soft tissues depend on adequate blood supply during recovery.
Cigarettes, vaping products and other nicotine-containing products should therefore be disclosed during the medical assessment.
Stopping nicotine before and after surgery may be required according to the surgical plan and individual medical evaluation.
HOW LONG DO FACE AND NECK LIFT RESULTS LAST?
Face and neck lift surgery changes the position of tissues at the time of surgery but does not stop the natural ageing process.
Future facial changes can be influenced by:
- Ageing.
- Genetics.
- Sun exposure.
- Weight changes.
- Facial volume changes.
- Smoking.
- General health.
There is therefore no fixed period during which facial appearance can be guaranteed to remain unchanged.
