RHINOPLASTY IN ANTALYA
Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure used to modify specific structures of the nose according to individual anatomy and facial proportions. Depending on the findings identified during examination, surgery may involve the nasal bones, cartilage, bridge, nasal tip, nostrils, septum or other supporting structures.
At Dr. Seckin Oksar’s practice in Antalya, rhinoplasty planning includes both the external appearance of the nose and, when relevant, internal structures related to nasal breathing. Skin thickness, cartilage strength, previous trauma or surgery and the relationship between the nose and surrounding facial features are also considered.
WHAT IS RHINOPLASTY?
Rhinoplasty changes the structural framework of the nose.
Depending on individual anatomy, the procedure may address:
- Nasal bridge.
- Nasal bones.
- Nasal cartilage.
- Nasal tip.
- Nostril shape.
- Nasal width.
- Nasal projection.
- Nasal length.
- Nasal septum when clinically relevant.
Every nose has a different combination of bone, cartilage, skin and soft tissue characteristics. For this reason, rhinoplasty cannot be planned according to one standard nasal shape or fixed measurements.
HOW IS RHINOPLASTY PLANNED?
The nose is evaluated from the front, profile, oblique and basal views.
The assessment includes:
- Nasal length and width.
- Bridge height and contour.
- Tip projection and rotation.
- Nostril shape and symmetry.
- Cartilage strength.
- Skin thickness.
- Facial proportions.
- Nasal breathing when relevant.
The nose is also evaluated in relation to the forehead, cheeks, lips and chin because facial structures influence how nasal proportions are perceived.
Natural nasal and facial asymmetry is common and should be documented before surgery.
HOW DOES SKIN THICKNESS AFFECT RHINOPLASTY?
Skin thickness influences how changes to the underlying bone and cartilage become visible after surgery.
Thicker skin may soften the visibility of smaller structural details and can retain swelling for longer, particularly around the nasal tip.
Thinner skin may show the underlying framework more clearly.
Skin characteristics therefore influence surgical planning and postoperative assessment but do not determine one standard surgical technique.
OPEN AND CLOSED RHINOPLASTY
Rhinoplasty may be performed using an open or closed surgical approach.
Open rhinoplasty
Open rhinoplasty uses incisions inside the nostrils together with a small incision across the columella, the tissue between the nostrils.
Closed rhinoplasty
Closed rhinoplasty uses incisions positioned inside the nostrils without an external columellar incision.
The choice between these approaches depends on the nasal anatomy, structures requiring treatment, previous surgery and degree of surgical access needed. Neither technique is automatically appropriate for every individual.
HOW ARE THE NASAL BRIDGE AND TIP ADDRESSED?
The nasal bridge consists of both bone and cartilage.
Depending on the anatomy, surgery may involve controlled modification, reduction, repositioning or structural support of these tissues.
The nasal tip is primarily supported by cartilage. Tip surgery may involve reshaping, repositioning or supporting existing cartilage.
Important factors include:
- Tip width.
- Tip projection.
- Tip rotation.
- Cartilage strength.
- Symmetry.
- Nostril relationship.
- Skin thickness.
The bridge and tip are evaluated together because changing one area can influence the overall nasal profile.
CAN RHINOPLASTY CHANGE THE NOSTRILS?
Nostril appearance is influenced by the nasal tip, alar cartilage and width of the nostril base.
Changes to the nasal tip can sometimes alter nostril appearance without direct treatment of the nostril base.
When the nostril base itself requires modification, additional incisions may be considered according to the surgical plan.
The need for this can only be determined after examination.
RHINOPLASTY AND NASAL BREATHING
The external shape of the nose and internal airway are anatomically connected.
Breathing difficulties may be related to:
- Nasal septum.
- Nasal valves.
- Turbinates.
- Previous trauma.
- Previous surgery.
- Other nasal conditions.
Aesthetic rhinoplasty does not automatically correct every cause of nasal obstruction.
When breathing concerns are present, relevant internal structures are evaluated and may be included in the surgical plan when clinically appropriate.
Septoplasty, which involves the nasal septum, may sometimes be performed together with rhinoplasty when both external and internal nasal structures require treatment.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING RHINOPLASTY SURGERY?
An external nasal splint may be used during early recovery. Internal splints or other nasal supports may also be used depending on the procedure.

Rhinoplasty is performed under anaesthesia.

After surgical access is obtained, the bone and cartilage structures included in the operative plan are addressed.

Cartilage and bone
Cartilage may be reshaped, repositioned or used for structural support. When nasal bones need repositioning, controlled bone procedures may also be performed.

If septal surgery is included, the relevant internal structures are addressed during the same operation.

Once the planned changes are completed, the incisions are closed.

Swelling is expected following rhinoplasty.
The nose may initially appear wider or less defined because of postoperative swelling. Bruising around the eyes can also occur when the nasal bones are treated.
Temporary nasal congestion is common because internal swelling can reduce airflow.
Postoperative instructions may include:

- Avoiding pressure on the nose.
- Avoiding strenuous exercise.
- Protecting the nose from trauma.

I went to Antalya to originally get a scar revision and abdominal etching as due to a previous botched surgery, I was left with a horrible keloid scar and uneven abdominal. I was very hesitant at first due to my previous experience. But Dr.Seckin is well recommended by a close friend. He made me feel at ease with the operation. He corrected my scar and did a correction mini tummy tuck plus abdominal etching. I cannot recommend him enough. He is an amazing professional Doctor.

HOW LONG DOES RHINOPLASTY SWELLING LAST?
The most noticeable swelling generally decreases during the first weeks.
However, residual swelling can remain for longer, particularly around the nasal tip.
The bridge may become defined before the tip because different nasal tissues heal at different rates.
Subtle changes may continue for several months.
For this reason, the appearance of the nose during early recovery should not be considered the final result.
CAN RHINOPLASTY CORRECT NASAL ASYMMETRY?
Rhinoplasty may be planned to address specific structural asymmetries involving the nasal bones, cartilage, nostrils or septum.
However, exact bilateral symmetry cannot be guaranteed because natural differences may also exist in the surrounding facial skeleton.
Pre-existing asymmetry is therefore considered during surgical planning.
WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE RISKS?
Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure and carries potential complications.
Possible risks include:
- Bleeding.
- Infection.
- Delayed wound healing.
- Changes in skin sensation.
- Persistent swelling.
- Nasal asymmetry.
- Bone or cartilage irregularities.
- Changes in nasal breathing.
- Scar-related changes.
- Changes in nasal support.
- Septal complications when relevant.
- Need for additional surgery.
Risk assessment takes into account nasal anatomy, medical history, previous operations and the extent of the planned procedure.
RHINOPLASTY AFTER PREVIOUS NASAL SURGERY
Previous rhinoplasty or other nasal surgery can change the anatomy of the nose.
Scar tissue may be present, and available cartilage or structural support may differ from an unoperated nose.
Previous surgical information can therefore be relevant during assessment.
Any new surgical plan must be based on examination of the existing bone, cartilage, skin and internal structures.
