BREAST AUGMENTATION IN ANTALYA
Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure used to increase breast volume and modify breast shape with implants selected according to individual anatomy. Planning involves more than choosing an implant size; breast width, existing tissue, skin characteristics, chest proportions and nipple position all influence the surgical approach.

WHAT IS BREAST AUGMENTATION?
Breast augmentation, also known as augmentation mammoplasty, involves placing a breast implant beneath the breast tissue or within another anatomical plane selected according to the individual breast and chest structure.
The procedure may be considered when additional breast volume is requested or when breast volume has changed following pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight changes or other factors.
Breast augmentation does not follow a single surgical template. The implant, incision and placement technique may differ from one person to another.
WHO MAY BE EVALUATED FOR BREAST AUGMENTATION?
Breast augmentation may be considered for adults who are medically suitable for elective surgery and would like to address breast volume or specific differences in breast shape.
Reasons for evaluation may include:
- Naturally limited breast volume.
- Differences in volume between the breasts.
- Volume changes following pregnancy or breastfeeding.
- Changes after significant weight loss.
- A preference for additional breast volume.
- Developmental differences affecting breast size or shape.
Breast position is also important. When significant skin laxity or nipple descent is present, an implant alone may not address all anatomical changes. This is evaluated during the examination.
HOW IS BREAST IMPLANT SIZE SELECTED?
Implant selection is based on several measurements rather than cup size alone. Important factors include:
Breast width
The implant base should correspond appropriately to the dimensions of the breast and chest wall.
Implant projection
Projection describes how far the implant extends forward from the chest. Implants with similar volumes may have different widths and projections.
Existing breast tissue
The amount of natural breast tissue influences implant coverage and may affect the selected implant position.
Skin characteristics
Skin elasticity and the amount of available skin influence how the tissues accommodate an implant.
For this reason, two people considering a similar implant volume may require different implant dimensions.
WHERE IS THE BREAST IMPLANT PLACED?
Breast implants may be positioned in different anatomical planes depending on the surgical plan.
Possible positions include placement beneath the breast tissue, beneath the pectoral muscle or within a plane that uses different levels of tissue coverage.
The appropriate position depends on factors such as:
- Breast tissue thickness.
- Implant dimensions.
- Chest muscle anatomy.
- Skin thickness.
- Breast position.
- Previous breast surgery.
The implant plane is therefore selected according to individual anatomy rather than as a standard approach for every breast augmentation.
WHERE IS THE INCISION MADE?
One commonly used incision is positioned within or close to the inframammary fold, the natural crease beneath the breast.
Other incision locations may be considered depending on anatomy and the operative plan.
The incision must provide appropriate access for creation of the implant pocket and placement of the implant.
Every surgical incision produces a permanent scar. Scar colour and texture change during healing, and individual skin characteristics influence the final appearance.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING BREAST AUGMENTATION SURGERY?
The duration of surgery varies according to anatomy and whether any additional procedure forms part of the operative plan.

Breast augmentation is performed under anaesthesia.

After the planned incision is made, a pocket is created for the breast implant in the selected anatomical plane.

Once the planned position has been established, the incision is closed with surgical sutures and appropriate dressings are applied.

Swelling, tightness and temporary changes in breast position are expected during the early recovery period.
The breasts may initially appear firmer or sit higher before the tissues gradually adapt around the implants.
Activity restrictions may include temporarily avoiding:

- Certain sleeping positions.
- Driving during early recovery.
A surgical support bra may also be recommended for a defined period.

My surgery experience with Dr. Seckin Oksar was amazing.I’m from Chicago USA. I went to Antalya to originally get a scar revision and abdominal etching as due to a previous botched surgery, I was left with a horrible keloid scar and uneven abdominal. I was very hesitant at first due to my previous experience. But Dr.Seckin is well recommended by a close friend. He made me feel at ease with the operation. He corrected my scar and did a correction mini tummy tuck plus abdominal etching. I cannot recommend him enough. He is an amazing professional Doctor.

WHEN DOES SWELLING DECREASE?
Breast augmentation should not be evaluated immediately after surgery.
Early swelling and tissue tension temporarily influence breast shape and implant position.
A significant proportion of swelling usually decreases during the first weeks, while more subtle changes may continue for several months.
The breast contour becomes easier to assess after sufficient healing has occurred.
ARE BREAST IMPLANTS PERMANENT?
Breast implants should not be considered lifetime devices.
An implant may remain in place for many years, but future monitoring is necessary. Replacement is not automatically required after a fixed number of years.
Additional surgery may become necessary if an implant-related problem develops, breast tissues change over time or a person later wishes to change or remove the implants.
Follow-up recommendations may also depend on the type of implant used.
BREAST AUGMENTATION, PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING
Pregnancy and breastfeeding can change breast volume, skin elasticity and breast position whether or not breast implants are present.
Breastfeeding may remain possible following breast augmentation, but future breastfeeding ability cannot be guaranteed by any surgical technique.
Anyone considering future pregnancy or breastfeeding should discuss this during the preoperative assessment so that it can be taken into account during planning.
BREAST SCREENING AFTER BREAST AUGMENTATION
Routine breast health screening should continue after breast augmentation according to age, medical history and healthcare recommendations.
The radiology team should be informed that breast implants are present before mammography or other breast imaging.
Different imaging views or techniques may sometimes be required to evaluate the breast tissue appropriately.
WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE RISKS?
Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure and therefore carries potential complications.
Possible risks include:
- Bleeding or haematoma.
- Infection.
- Delayed wound healing.
- Changes in breast or nipple sensation.
- Visible or raised scars.
- Implant displacement.
- Breast asymmetry.
- Capsular contracture.
- Implant rupture or damage.
- Fluid accumulation.
- Changes in breast shape over time.
- Need for additional surgery.
Specific implant-related risks and follow-up requirements should be discussed before surgery.
BREAST ASYMMETRY AND BREAST AUGMENTATION
Natural differences between the breasts are common.
Asymmetry may involve breast volume, nipple position, breast fold level, chest wall shape or rib cage anatomy.
These differences are assessed before surgery. In some cases, different implant dimensions may be considered when breast volumes differ.
However, surgery cannot guarantee exact bilateral symmetry because the underlying anatomy itself may not be identical.
