Mommy Makeover is a term used for an individually planned combination of surgical procedures that addresses specific physical changes that may occur following pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding. It is not a single operation with a fixed set of procedures.
Pregnancy can affect several areas of the body in different ways. Changes may involve breast volume or position, abdominal skin, abdominal wall structure and localised fat distribution. The combination and degree of these changes vary from person to person.

WHAT IS A MOMMY MAKEOVER?
A Mommy Makeover combines selected procedures within an individually designed body-contouring plan.
Depending on the examination, the plan may involve surgery of the breasts, abdomen or selected areas of subcutaneous fat.
Possible procedures can include:
- Breast uplift.
- Breast augmentation.
- Breast reduction.
- Full tummy tuck.
- Mini tummy tuck.
- Liposuction.
This does not mean that every Mommy Makeover includes all of these operations.
One person may primarily have changes involving the abdomen, while another may have both abdominal and breast changes.
The combination is determined following individual examination.
WHEN MAY MOMMY MAKEOVER SURGERY BE EVALUATED?
Mommy Makeover surgery may be evaluated after pregnancy-related physical changes have stabilised and the individual is medically suitable for elective surgery.
Important considerations include:
- General medical health.
- Time since pregnancy.
- Breastfeeding status.
- Body-weight stability.
- Future pregnancy plans.
- Previous abdominal or breast surgery.
- Medication use.
- Smoking or nicotine exposure.
- Existing scars.
The appropriate timing differs between individuals and cannot be determined only by the number of months that have passed since childbirth.
WHAT CHANGES CAN OCCUR AFTER PREGNANCY?
Pregnancy affects several tissues.
The abdominal skin stretches as the uterus enlarges. The connective tissues between the abdominal muscles may also change, sometimes resulting in separation known as diastasis recti.
Breast tissue can change during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Possible changes include differences in breast volume, skin elasticity and nipple position.
Changes in body-fat distribution may also occur.
Some of these changes can remain even after body weight has stabilised.
The purpose of the medical assessment is to identify which tissues are responsible for the individual concerns before considering surgery.
BREAST SURGERY AS PART OF A MOMMY MAKEOVER
Pregnancy and breastfeeding can affect breast volume and position differently. For this reason, breast surgery within a Mommy Makeover may involve different procedures depending on the anatomy.
Breast uplift
A breast uplift may be considered when skin laxity and nipple position indicate breast descent.
Breast augmentation
Breast augmentation may be considered where additional breast volume forms part of the surgical plan.
Breast reduction
When breast volume and excess skin require reduction, breast reduction may be evaluated.
These procedures are not interchangeable. The appropriate approach depends on breast volume, skin envelope, nipple position and individual anatomy.
ABDOMINAL SURGERY AS PART OF A MOMMY MAKEOVER
Pregnancy can affect both abdominal skin and the abdominal wall.
Where excess skin extends above and below the belly button, full abdominoplasty may be evaluated.
Where changes are more limited to the lower abdomen, mini abdominoplasty may be considered in selected cases.
If separation of the abdominal wall is identified, repair may also form part of the operative plan.
The extent of abdominal surgery is determined according to examination findings.
LIPOSUCTION WITHIN A MOMMY MAKEOVER
Liposuction may sometimes be included when localised subcutaneous fat is present in selected areas.
Possible treatment areas may include:
- Abdomen.
- Waist.
- Flanks.
- Hips.
- Thighs.
- Other anatomically appropriate areas.
Liposuction is not a method of general weight reduction.
It also does not replace skin-removal surgery when significant skin laxity is present.
The amount and location of fat treatment are planned in relation to the other procedures being performed.
ARE ALL PROCEDURES PERFORMED DURING ONE OPERATION?
Not necessarily.
Whether procedures can be combined within the same operation depends on several factors, including:
- Number of procedures.
- Expected operating time.
- Medical history.
- Extent of surgery.
- Areas being treated.
- Individual risk factors.
In some cases, selected procedures may be included within the same surgical session.
In other situations, separating procedures into different stages may be considered.

When several body areas are operated on during the same surgical plan, postoperative instructions must take all treated regions into account.
Expected early changes can include:

I went to Antalya to originally get a scar revision and abdominal etching as due to a previous botched surgery, I was left with a horrible keloid scar and uneven abdominal. I was very hesitant at first due to my previous experience. But Dr.Seckin is well recommended by a close friend. He made me feel at ease with the operation.
