LIPOSUCTION IN ANTALYA
Liposuction is a surgical procedure used to remove selected deposits of subcutaneous fat from specific areas of the body. The procedure is planned according to fat distribution, skin quality, body proportions and the anatomical characteristics of the area being treated.
Liposuction is not a weight-loss procedure and does not replace methods used for general weight management. Its surgical purpose is to modify defined areas where subcutaneous fat is present.
At Dr. Seckin Oksar’s practice in Antalya, liposuction planning begins with an individual examination to determine which areas may be suitable for treatment, how much tissue can be addressed and how the surrounding skin may respond after fat removal.
WHAT IS LIPOSUCTION?
Liposuction, also known as lipoplasty, removes subcutaneous fat through small skin incisions using a thin surgical tube called a cannula.
The cannula is introduced beneath the skin and moved through the selected fatty tissue. The loosened fat is then removed using controlled suction.
The amount and distribution of fat removed are determined according to the treatment area, surrounding tissues and individual anatomy.
Liposuction does not involve removing all fat from an area. A layer of subcutaneous tissue remains beneath the skin, and maintaining an appropriate relationship between this layer and the surrounding tissues is important when planning body contour.
WHICH AREAS CAN BE TREATED WITH LIPOSUCTION?
Liposuction may be considered for localised subcutaneous fat in several anatomical areas.
These may include:
- Abdomen.
- Waist and flanks.
- Hips.
- Inner and outer thighs.
- Upper arms.
- Back.
- Chin and neck.
- Selected areas of the chest.
- Knees.
- Calves and ankles in appropriate cases.
More than one area may sometimes be included within the same surgical plan.
The number and size of treated areas influence the extent of surgery, fluid management and recovery. For this reason, the appropriate combination must be determined following medical assessment.
WHO MAY BE EVALUATED FOR LIPOSUCTION?
Liposuction may be evaluated in adults who have localised subcutaneous fat and are medically suitable for elective surgery.
Assessment includes:
- Distribution of subcutaneous fat.
- Skin elasticity.
- Body proportions.
- Current body weight and recent weight changes.
- Previous surgery.
- Existing scars.
- General medical history.
- Medication use.
- Smoking or nicotine exposure.
The condition of the skin is particularly important.
After fat is removed, the skin must adapt to the underlying tissues. Skin with reduced elasticity may not contract to the same degree as skin with greater elasticity.
Where substantial excess skin is present, removing fat alone may not address the skin component.
IS LIPOSUCTION A WEIGHT-LOSS PROCEDURE?
No.
Liposuction is designed to remove selected deposits of subcutaneous fat rather than produce general weight reduction.
Body weight alone therefore does not determine the surgical plan.
The surgeon evaluates the location and thickness of fat deposits and how they relate to the surrounding body contour.
Significant future weight gain or weight loss can alter the appearance of treated and untreated areas after surgery.
WHAT CAN LIPOSUCTION NOT TREAT?
Liposuction removes subcutaneous fat but does not directly correct every factor that influences body contour.
It is not specifically designed to treat:
- Obesity.
- Significant loose or hanging skin.
- Stretch marks.
- Cellulite.
- Abdominal muscle separation.
- Fat located deep within the abdominal cavity.
For example, an abdomen may appear prominent because of subcutaneous fat, abdominal wall anatomy, internal fat or a combination of these factors.
An examination is therefore necessary to identify which tissues are contributing to the visible contour.
HOW IS LIPOSUCTION PLANNED?
Before surgery, the areas being considered for treatment are examined from different angles.
The surgeon assesses the thickness and distribution of the fatty tissue together with the quality of the overlying skin.
Treatment zones are marked according to the anatomical boundaries of the area.
The aim is not simply to remove the greatest possible volume of fat. The amount removed must be planned in relation to tissue thickness, surrounding contours, skin characteristics and surgical safety.
Natural differences between the right and left sides of the body are also documented before surgery.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING LIPOSUCTION?
Several small access points may be required to approach an area from different directions and manage the contour appropriately.

Liposuction is performed using an anaesthetic method selected according to the treatment area, extent of surgery and medical assessment.

Small incisions are made near the areas being treated.

Fluid solution
A fluid solution may first be introduced into the tissues to assist with the surgical process and reduce bleeding.

Fat removal
A cannula is then inserted through the incisions and passed through the subcutaneous fat using controlled movements. The selected fat is removed through suction.

After the planned treatment is completed, the incisions are managed according to the surgical technique and a compression garment may be applied.

DOES LIPOSUCTION LEAVE SCARS?
Yes, although liposuction generally uses relatively small incisions.
Incisions are positioned according to the treatment area and the access required for the cannula.
Any incision through the skin creates a permanent scar.
During early healing, small liposuction scars may appear pink, red or more visible. Their colour and texture usually change gradually as scar maturation progresses.
Individual scar formation varies according to skin characteristics, wound healing and previous scar behaviour.
RECOVERY AFTER LIPOSUCTION
Swelling, bruising and temporary soreness are common after liposuction.
The treated areas may initially feel firm, numb or sensitive.
A compression garment may be recommended to support the treated tissues and assist with management of postoperative swelling.
Postoperative instructions may include information about:
- Compression garment use.

- Showering.

- Walking.
- Driving.
- Work.
- Exercise.
- Follow-up examinations.
Light movement is generally introduced before strenuous physical activity.

I went to Antalya to originally get a scar revision and abdominal etching as due to a previous botched surgery, I was left with a horrible keloid scar and uneven abdominal. I was very hesitant at first due to my previous experience. But Dr.Seckin is well recommended by a close friend. He made me feel at ease with the operation. He corrected my scar and did a correction mini tummy tuck plus abdominal etching. I cannot recommend him enough. He is an amazing professional Doctor.

HOW LONG DOES SWELLING LAST?
Swelling gradually decreases following liposuction.
It is generally more visible during the early recovery period and may vary between different treatment areas.
Bruising commonly resolves before all swelling has disappeared.
Residual swelling and tissue firmness can continue for several weeks or longer while the tissues adapt.
For this reason, body contour should not be evaluated as final immediately after surgery.
Changes become progressively easier to assess as swelling decreases.
WHEN CAN EXERCISE RESUME?
Return to exercise is gradual.
Walking and routine daily activity can usually be resumed before strenuous exercise or resistance training.
The appropriate timing depends on the treated areas, extent of surgery and individual recovery.
Activities that place significant pressure or repetitive strain on treated tissues may need to be restricted for longer.
Postoperative examination helps determine when activity can safely be increased.
WHAT HAPPENS TO THE SKIN AFTER FAT REMOVAL?
The appearance of the skin after liposuction depends partly on its ability to adapt to the reduced volume beneath it.
Factors affecting this include:
- Skin elasticity.
- Age-related tissue characteristics.
- Previous pregnancy.
- Significant weight changes.
- Stretch marks.
- Amount of fat removed.
- Location of treatment.
Liposuction itself does not remove substantial excess skin.
If skin laxity is already present before surgery, some looseness may remain or become more noticeable after fat removal.
This is why skin quality forms part of the initial assessment.
CAN FAT RETURN AFTER LIPOSUCTION?
Fat cells removed during liposuction are physically removed from the treated area.
However, liposuction does not prevent future weight gain.
Remaining fat cells can increase in size when body weight increases, and body proportions may change over time.
Maintaining a relatively stable body weight therefore helps maintain a more consistent postoperative contour. Significant weight gain can alter the surgical result.
WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE RISKS OF LIPOSUCTION?
Liposuction is a surgical procedure and carries potential complications.
Possible risks include:
- Bleeding.
- Bruising.
- Infection.
- Fluid accumulation.
- Persistent swelling.
- Changes in skin sensation.
- Irregular or uneven contour.
- Asymmetry.
- Changes in skin pigmentation.
- Loose or rippled skin.
- Delayed wound healing.
- Damage to deeper structures.
- Blood clots and pulmonary complications.
- Anaesthesia-related complications.
- Need for additional surgery.
The risk profile can change when larger volumes or multiple areas are treated.
SMOKING AND LIPOSUCTION
Smoking and nicotine use are important considerations before surgery.
Nicotine can reduce blood flow to healing tissues and can affect wound healing.
Cigarettes, vaping and other nicotine-containing products should therefore be disclosed during the preoperative assessment.
Medication, supplements and other factors that may influence bleeding or healing should also be reviewed before surgery.
