MINI TUMMY TUCK IN ANTALYA
A mini tummy tuck, also known as mini abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure that focuses on excess skin and selected abdominal wall changes in the lower abdomen, particularly the area below the belly button. WHAT IS A MINI TUMMY TUCK?
A mini tummy tuck removes selected excess skin from the lower abdomen through a horizontal incision positioned in the lower abdominal region.
The procedure focuses primarily on the area between the belly button and the pubic region. Depending on the anatomy, limited abdominal wall tightening may also be included when clinically appropriate.
The belly button generally remains in its existing position because the procedure does not usually require creation of a new opening around it.
The amount of skin that can be removed depends on skin laxity, tissue distribution and the relationship between the lower abdominal skin and surrounding structures.
WHO MAY BE EVALUATED FOR MINI TUMMY TUCK SURGERY?
Mini abdominoplasty may be considered when excess skin or tissue laxity is mainly located below the belly button.
An assessment may be appropriate in the presence of:
- Limited loose skin in the lower abdomen.
- Skin changes following pregnancy.
- Lower abdominal skin laxity after weight changes.
- A small lower abdominal fold.
- Selected lower abdominal wall changes.
- Localised changes that remain after body weight has stabilised.
The procedure is not intended as a method of weight loss.
Body weight, skin elasticity, abdominal wall anatomy and the distribution of excess tissue are evaluated before determining whether the procedure corresponds to the existing anatomy.
HOW IS THE LOWER ABDOMEN ASSESSED?
Planning begins with examination of the abdomen while standing.
The surgeon evaluates:
- The amount of excess skin below the belly button.
- Skin elasticity.
- Lower abdominal wall structure.
- Distribution of subcutaneous tissue.
- Position of existing scars.
- Abdominal symmetry.
- Belly button position.
Previous pregnancies and abdominal surgery are also relevant because they may affect both the skin and deeper abdominal tissues.
The examination helps determine whether the anatomical changes are sufficiently localised for a mini tummy tuck to be considered.
DOES A MINI TUMMY TUCK TIGHTEN THE ABDOMINAL MUSCLES?
Abdominal wall tightening may be included when an appropriate lower abdominal wall change is identified.
The two rectus abdominis muscles run vertically through the front of the abdomen. Pregnancy and other factors can affect the connective tissue between them.
However, muscle repair is not automatically required in every mini tummy tuck.
The location and degree of abdominal wall change must first be assessed. If tightening is included, its extent is determined according to the surgical access available and individual anatomy.
WHAT HAPPENS TO THE BELLY BUTTON?
In mini abdominoplasty, the belly button is generally not repositioned through a new skin opening.
The operation focuses on tissues below the navel, allowing the lower abdominal skin to be adjusted without the standard need for an incision around the belly button.
The exact effect on the relationship between the lower abdomen and belly button depends on how much skin is removed and repositioned.
Belly button position and surrounding tissues are therefore assessed before surgery.
WHERE IS THE MINI TUMMY TUCK SCAR?
The incision is positioned horizontally across the lower abdomen, generally within the lower abdominal or pubic region.
The exact length depends on the amount and distribution of skin that needs to be removed.
Although the incision may be relatively limited, there is no single scar length that applies to every individual.
Every surgical incision produces a permanent scar. During early healing, the scar may appear red, pink or firm. Its colour and texture generally change gradually as scar maturation progresses.
Previous scar behaviour and skin characteristics can influence its eventual appearance.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING MINI TUMMY TUCK SURGERY?
A compression garment may be recommended during recovery. Drain use depends on the surgical technique and individual findings and is not required in every case.

The lower abdomen may initially feel firm or restricted because the tissues have been repositioned and are beginning to heal.

WHEN CAN EXERCISE RESUME?
Physical activity should be resumed progressively.
Walking and routine daily movement place different demands on the abdomen than resistance training, running or direct abdominal exercises.
If abdominal wall tightening has been performed, activities that place significant stress on the abdominal muscles may require additional restriction.
The appropriate timing is determined during postoperative follow-up rather than according to a single schedule for every individual.
HOW LONG DOES SWELLING LAST?
Swelling is expected after mini abdominoplasty.
It generally decreases progressively during the first weeks, although some residual swelling or tissue firmness may remain for longer.
Swelling can also vary throughout the day during early recovery.
The abdominal contour should therefore not be considered final immediately after surgery.
Tissues continue to adapt as internal healing progresses.
CAN A MINI TUMMY TUCK REMOVE STRETCH MARKS?
Mini tummy tuck surgery is not specifically performed to treat stretch marks.
However, stretch marks located within the lower abdominal skin that is surgically removed will be removed together with that skin.
Stretch marks located outside the removed area will remain.
Their position may change slightly as the surrounding skin is repositioned.
CAN PREGNANCY AFFECT THE RESULT?
Yes.
Pregnancy can stretch the abdominal skin and alter the abdominal wall after surgery.
Future pregnancy plans should therefore be discussed during the preoperative assessment.
Pregnancy following surgery does not mean that changes will occur in exactly the same way for every individual, but the abdominal contour may be affected.
CAN WEIGHT CHANGES AFFECT THE ABDOMEN AFTER SURGERY?
Significant weight gain or weight loss can alter abdominal skin, fat distribution and overall contour.
For this reason, a relatively stable body weight provides a more consistent basis for planning mini abdominoplasty.
The procedure should not be considered a substitute for weight reduction.
Future changes in body weight may affect the tissues that remain after surgery.
WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE RISKS?
Mini tummy tuck surgery carries potential complications like any surgical procedure.
Possible risks include:
- Bleeding.
- Haematoma.
- Infection.
- Fluid accumulation.
- Delayed wound healing.
- Wound separation.
- Changes in skin sensation.
- Persistent numbness.
- Visible or raised scars.
- Abdominal asymmetry.
- Skin circulation problems.
- Persistent swelling.
- Blood clots.
- Anaesthesia-related complications.
- Need for additional medical or surgical treatment.
The individual risk profile depends on general health, previous surgery, medication use, smoking status and the extent of the planned operation.
SMOKING AND MINI ABDOMINOPLASTY
Nicotine can affect blood flow to healing tissues and may increase the risk of wound-healing problems.
Cigarette use, vaping and other nicotine-containing products should therefore be discussed before surgery.
Instructions regarding stopping nicotine before and after surgery should be followed according to the medical plan.
