BREAST UPLIFT IN ANTALYA
Breast uplift surgery, medically known as mastopexy, is a surgical procedure used to reposition and reshape breast tissue when the breast skin and supporting structures have changed over time. Depending on individual anatomy, the procedure may involve removal of excess skin, reshaping of the existing breast tissue and repositioning of the nipple and areola.
At Dr. Seckin Oksar’s practice in Antalya, breast uplift surgery is planned according to breast position, nipple level, skin excess, existing breast volume, asymmetry and the relationship between the breast and chest wall.
WHAT IS A BREAST UPLIFT?
A breast uplift changes the position and shape of the existing breast tissue.
During mastopexy, selected excess skin is removed and the remaining breast tissue is reshaped. When the nipple sits lower than the planned position, the nipple-areola complex can also be repositioned while maintaining its connection to underlying breast tissue.
The procedure does not automatically require breast implants.
The surgical technique depends on how much the breast has descended, the amount of excess skin and the volume of existing breast tissue.
WHY DOES BREAST POSITION CHANGE?
Breast shape is influenced by skin elasticity, breast volume and supporting tissues.
Changes can occur following:
- Pregnancy.
- Breastfeeding.
- Weight gain or weight loss.
- Changes in breast volume.
- Ageing.
- Natural changes in tissue support.
The degree of change varies between individuals.
During assessment, the position of the nipple is considered together with the breast fold, skin quality and overall distribution of breast tissue.
WHAT CAN BREAST UPLIFT SURGERY ADDRESS?
Depending on the starting anatomy, mastopexy may:
- Reposition the nipple and areola.
- Remove selected excess skin.
- Reshape existing breast tissue.
- Adjust the breast skin envelope.
- Address differences in breast position.
- Reduce areola diameter when included in the surgical plan.
The procedure primarily reshapes existing breast tissue rather than increasing breast size.
If additional volume is being considered, the possible use of an implant is assessed separately.
CAN BREAST UPLIFT BE PERFORMED WITHOUT IMPLANTS?
Yes.
Breast uplift surgery can be performed using the existing breast tissue without inserting a breast implant.
Whether this approach is appropriate depends on the amount and distribution of natural breast tissue and the intended degree of change.
Some individuals have sufficient existing volume and require only tissue reshaping and removal of excess skin.
Others may have limited breast volume and may require separate evaluation if additional volume forms part of the surgical plan.
An implant is therefore not a routine requirement for mastopexy.
HOW IS BREAST UPLIFT SURGERY PLANNED?
Planning begins with examination of the breasts while standing.
The surgeon evaluates:
- Nipple position.
- Breast fold level.
- Amount of excess skin.
- Existing breast volume.
- Skin characteristics.
- Breast width.
- Natural asymmetry.
Breast position can change when lying down, which is why surgical markings are generally made while the individual is upright.
The amount of tissue movement and the incision pattern are then selected according to the anatomical findings.
WHERE ARE THE INCISIONS LOCATED?
The incision pattern depends on the amount of skin that needs to be removed and how far the breast and nipple need to be repositioned. Possible incision patterns include:
Around the areola
An incision may be positioned around the border of the areola when limited skin adjustment is required.
Vertical incision
A vertical incision may extend from the lower edge of the areola toward the breast fold.
Inverted-T incision
When greater skin excess is present, an additional horizontal incision may be required along the inframammary fold.
Not every breast uplift requires the same incision pattern. All mastopexy procedures involving skin removal create permanent scars. Scar colour, thickness and visibility generally change during the healing process.
WHAT HAPPENS TO THE NIPPLE AND AREOLA?
The nipple and areola usually remain connected to underlying breast tissue while being repositioned.
This connection helps preserve blood supply to the nipple-areola complex.
The amount of repositioning depends on the existing nipple level and the required breast shape.
Areola size may also be adjusted when clinically appropriate.
Changes in nipple or breast sensation can occur after surgery. These may be temporary, although persistent changes are also possible.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING BREAST UPLIFT SURGERY?
The duration of surgery depends on the extent of skin removal and tissue repositioning required.

Swelling, bruising and tightness are expected during early recovery.
The breasts may initially appear higher or feel firmer because of swelling and surgical tension.
As healing progresses, swelling decreases and the tissues gradually settle.
Temporary activity restrictions may include:

- Repetitive stretching.
- Sleeping directly on the breasts.
- Activities that place tension on the incisions.

I went to Antalya to originally get a scar revision and abdominal etching as due to a previous botched surgery, I was left with a horrible keloid scar and uneven abdominal. I was very hesitant at first due to my previous experience. But Dr.Seckin is well recommended by a close friend. He made me feel at ease with the operation. He corrected my scar and did a correction mini tummy tuck plus abdominal etching. I cannot recommend him enough. He is an amazing professional Doctor.

WHEN CAN THE RESULT BE EVALUATED?
Breast uplift results cannot be accurately evaluated immediately after surgery.
Swelling and tissue tension affect breast position during the first stage of recovery.
These changes gradually decrease during the following weeks, while more subtle changes in breast shape may continue for several months.
Scars also mature gradually and may initially appear more visible before changing in colour and texture.
BREAST UPLIFT SCARS
The location of scars depends on the technique used.
Scars may be located:
- Around the areola.
- Vertically between the areola and breast fold.
- Along the breast fold.
All surgical scars are permanent, although they generally become less noticeable as healing progresses.
Scar appearance varies according to skin type, genetics, wound tension and individual healing characteristics.
BREAST UPLIFT, PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING
Pregnancy and breastfeeding can alter breast volume, nipple position and skin elasticity.
Mastopexy may be considered after pregnancy and breastfeeding once breast volume has stabilised.
Future pregnancy is still possible after breast uplift surgery, but another pregnancy may change breast shape again.
Breastfeeding may also remain possible following mastopexy, but future breastfeeding ability cannot be guaranteed.
Anyone considering future pregnancy or breastfeeding should discuss this during the preoperative assessment.
WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE RISKS?
Breast uplift surgery carries potential complications like any surgical procedure.
Possible risks include:
- Bleeding or haematoma.
- Infection.
- Delayed wound healing.
- Wound separation.
- Changes in nipple or breast sensation.
- Visible or raised scars.
- Breast asymmetry.
- Changes in nipple or areola position.
- Fat necrosis.
- Fluid accumulation.
- Tissue-healing problems.
- Need for additional surgery.
Smoking and nicotine can affect tissue circulation and wound healing and should therefore be discussed before surgery.
HOW LONG DO BREAST UPLIFT RESULTS LAST?
Breast uplift surgery changes breast position at the time of the operation, but it does not stop future biological changes.
Breast shape may later be affected by ageing, pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight changes and changes in breast tissue volume.
Maintaining a relatively stable body weight may reduce one source of future breast-volume changes, but no surgical result can be guaranteed to remain unchanged permanently.
